Peace, Love & Pretty Hair

Monday, February 2, 2015

As some of my readers may know, when I attended college at Quinnipiac University, I had my own hair and makeup company called Peace.Love.PrettyHair. So for today's post, I thought I would dig up my roots and explore some bridal hair do's and don'ts!

1. DO consider your veil and/or headpiece. The veil factors into your overall look, and its length and style may determine if you'll want to wear your hair up or down. Bring your veil and headpiece to the salon for your bridal hair trial(s). For more info on veils and headpieces, click here.

2. DON'T cut your hair right before your wedding. Instead, do it a month or two prior to ensure that you like the cut and that it will work well with the hairstyle you've chosen. (But do get your roots dyed a few weeks before your nuptials).

3. DO choose your stylist carefully. This is one of the biggest days of your life - choose someone you trust to do your hair. If your stylist doesn't typically do wedding hairstyles, ask him or her for a recommendation.

4. DON'T experiment with your hair color. Talk to your colorist about how you want your hair to look on the big day. You don't want to dramatically change your hair color before the wedding. You should look like an enhanced version of yourself, not someone totally different.

5. DO try more than one style. Just as you tried on several wedding dresses, your stylist should show you at least three different looks based on your description of what you want.

6. DON'T go to your consultation without any ideas. Pictures speak louder than words. Bring pictures to help give your stylist an idea of the kind of hairstyle you're seeking.

7. DO have your stylist available for touch-ups. If it's in your budget, consider having your hair stylist stay after the ceremony and throughout the evening to do touch ups to your hair - or even give you a completely different look! If the expense is too high, ask the stylist for tips on how to touch up your own hair during the reception.

8. DON'T forget about the dress. Your hair should compliment your gown. Choose your gown first, and then pick a hairstyle that will work well.

9. DO go for extensions. If your trendy bob doesn't jive with your dream of having luscious locks on your wedding day, ask your stylist for extensions. A temporary fix that is the perfect solution!

10. DON'T forget about the groom! The focus may be on you, but you're going to want your hubby's hair to look just as good. Make sure he gets a good haircut the week of the wedding.
